I AM PLACING THIS INFORMATION ABOUT TIMOTHY DONOGHOE FOR ANOTHER PERSON. DR. MCCARRON IS MY MOTHERS DR. HIS GREAT GREAT GRANDFTHER IS TIMOTHY DONOGHOE. HE RECEIVED THE CONGRESSIONSAL MEDAL OF HONOR, FOR CARRYING A WOUNDED OFFICER OFF THE FIELD FROM BETWEEN THE LINES WHILE HE HIMSELF WAS WOUNDED. TIMOTHY MARRRIED ESTHER MARY BASON ON FEB. 26, 1862 IN LIVERPOOL ENGLAND. THEY CAME TO NY WITH WIFE AND SON PATRICK AND JOINED THE 69TH REG. N Y CITY VOLUNTEERS ON SEPT. 15, 1862. HE WAS SHOT IN THE RIGHT THIGH BUT CARRIED A WOUNDED OFFICER TO SAFETY WHILE UNDER THE LIVE OF FIRE. HE WAS PROMOTED TO SGT. IN JAN. 1864. RECEIVED HIS MEDAL AT FREDERICKSBURG. HE DIED ON MAR. 19, 1908 AND IS BURIED IN THE CEMETERY OF THE HOLY CROSS IN BROOKLYN NY. 3620 TILDEN AVE. BROOKLYN. HE WAS 5'9' TALL GREY EYES AND FAIR HAIR. HE HAD 7 CHILDREN. PATRICK F., ANNIE, ELIZABETH, ELLEN, JOHN J. EMMA, ALICE.

John Durkin (my 3rd-great grandfather) was born abt. 1829 in County Mayo, Ireland, and emigrated to the United States ca. 1848. He served in the 69th from 23 September 1861 until discharged 23 September 1864 at Petersburg, Virginia. He was the assistant to the Chaplain of the 69th, Thomas Willett (Oullett). John Durkin died 17 January 1888 in New York and is buried in Calvary Cemetery.

Philip O'Riley joined the 69th NYS Militia in April of 1861, with big brother Bernard. Philip had just turned 12 years old and both fought at Bull Run with the regiment. The brother was killed in action in May 1864, at the North Anna River, shot in the forehead. Bernard Reilly is in Arlington Section 27, grave 411. Philip Reilly went into the stone business in New York and died an old man, living where LaGuardia Airport now is. His grandson James Reilly joined the 69th (165th) in 1939 as a Pvt and ended the war as a Captain. Philip's Great Great grandson, Richard Reilly, joined the 69th and New York National Guard as a 2nd Lt, later commanding Delta Company as a Captain. Assigned as Aide de Camp to the Commanding General Task Force Spartan Shield in the Middle East (2019). Richard Reilly is a member of NYPD, assigned as a Detective Brooklyn South.

My second cousin four times removed. For an account of Bernard O'Neill please see The Irish Sword, Vol.XXV, Summer 2006, No. 99. He was killed at Petersburg VA on June 16, 1864 and is buried at Poplar Grove Cemetery, Petersburg.

Jeremiah C. Sullivan 1841-1896 was my great grandfather on my father's side .
He immigrated to USA in 1864 and very quickly joined the Fighting Irish 69 th Regiment on February 27,1865. He was wounded during the last week of the Civil War April 2,1865 in Petersburg Virginia. He suffered pain from his injury the rest of his life and succumbed to TB in April 1896. He was a father to 8 children who all lived to maturity. His oldest son, Timothy Jeremiah Sullivan ( 1876-1958) served in the Spanish American War 1898-1899.

Enlisting at age 15, James fought throught the 69th's major battles, from Antietam to Spotsylvania, where he was wounded. After being discharged at the rank of Sergeant, he moved to Indiana or Ohio, where he opened a mill. James died in obscurity in 1928.
